Draw of lots for 370 booze vends yields Rs 198.6cr

MOHALI: The excise and taxation department on Wednesday earned Rs 198.60 crore from the draw of lots for the allotment of 370 liquor vends The department recovered Rs 10 crore as 25% of licence fees from successful applicants.The draw of lots for liquor vends took place at Rai Farm situated on Landran-Kharar road under the supervision of Paramjit Singh, assistant commissioner, excise and taxation department.The department had received 10,010 applications for 35 groups, which were 40% more than the previous fiscal. In last fiscal we had earned Rs 179.44 crore from allotment of 346 liquor vends,”In 2018-19 financial year, Mohali district had 346 vends, out of them 211 were for sale of country-made liquor.During the draw, Rs 52.49 crore was earned from allotment of Kharar MC zone, Rs 27.32 crore from Kharar urban zone, Rs 10.24 crore from Banur urban zone and Rs 13.22 crore from Kurali urban zone.The liquor policy for the financial year has a provision of 12 extra vends.“Successful applicants of liquor units located at boundary area of Chandigarh – Mohali have been allowed to open 12 extra liquor vends if they want to,” Paramjit said. Last fiscal, the department had received 6,500 applications for the same number of groups and collected 11.7 crore as application fee.Most of the liquor vends were allotted to Turtle Quick Private Limited, a Delhi-based group, as they managed to get five out of the total 35 zones.Paramjit Singh, assistant commissioner, excise and taxation department, said the Turtle Quick Private Limited got liquors vends of zones 5, 6, 7, Kharar zones 2 and 4.He said, “We are expecting to earn revenue of Rs 198.6 crore through draw of 370 liquor vends, including 223 liquor vends for sale of country-made liquor and 147 for English liquor.
