PU changes CET (UG) entrance exam date

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University on Tuesday changed the date of the entrance exam of CET UG to April 30. Earlier, the exam date was clashing with the university’s convocation scheduled for April 28. The matter had also come up for discussion in one of the senate meetings and an assurance was given that the exam centres for undergraduate entrance exam will be set up at regional centres as well for the convenience of students. The subsequent year also saw certain glitches in the online admission process.A PU committee had recently recommended setting up examination centres for PU-CET undergraduate across its regional centres in Punjab. The PU-–CET (UG) is for admission to BSc (Hons) and B Pharmacy in Panjab University.Moreover, the university has also postponed the date of entrance test for PU-BA Bcom LLB (Hons) five-year integrated course entrance test, 2019, from May 19 to May 26 at 10 am to 11:30 am.

Now, the university will launch the website and announce the entire schedule of the admissions on April 5.“The entrance test for undergraduate courses has been postponed to April 30 since it was clashing with the convocation. We are going to launch the website and the schedule will be announced on April 5,” said Parvinder Singh, controller of examination (CoE), PU. The PU-–CET (UG) is for admission to BSc (Hons) and B Pharmacy in Panjab University.Moreover, the university has also postponed the date of entrance test for PU-BA Bcom LLB (Hons) five-year integrated course entrance test, 2019, from May 19 to May 26 at 10 am to 11:30 am. The date of the entrance test was clashing with the Lok Sabha elections in Chandigarh on May 19.This year too, Panjab University online admissions will be conducted by the Bhopal-based firm, which has been conducting online admissions for the university for the last two years. This was decided in the last syndicate meeting to extend the university’s agreement with the firm by one year since the computer centre of the university is not ready to conduct the online admissions.PU’s agreement with the firm for cloud-based online admission system was to expire this year and a proposal to extend the agreement by a year was tabled for ratification in the syndicate. The university had introduced the online system for admissions in 2017.The process was meant to be automated in which auto SMS/email integration and online payment gateway was included. The students, however, faced problems in the first year only when the university had to ask the students to submit the hard copy of documents to the departments also even after submitting them online. The subsequent year also saw certain glitches in the online admission process.A PU committee had recently recommended setting up examination centres for PU-CET undergraduate across its regional centres in Punjab. This will facilitate the candidates, who appear for the entrance exam, from Punjab.The recommendations by the committee have been sent to vice-chancellor Raj Kumar for approval.The university has four regional centres, including one rural regional centre at Kauni, and three regional centres at Muktsar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur . The matter had also come up for discussion in one of the senate meetings and an assurance was given that the exam centres for undergraduate entrance exam will be set up at regional centres as well for the convenience of students.
