IN BRIEF Chandigarh: A 22-year-old youth has been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police while possessing 8.5 grams of heroin. According to the police, Vishal, a resident of Sector 28, was arrested near his house while carrying the narcotic on June 11. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Sector 26 police station. TNS Snatcher flees with phone Chandigarh: Three motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a mobile phone from a person near the Sector 25/38 light point. According to the police, the complainant, identified as Gagan, a resident of Dhanas village, was going to his home when the miscreants snatched his mobile phone. On getting information, cops rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation (MC) has started re-carpeting V4 road in Sectors 19, 23 and 24. Due to the re-carpeting work, these roads would be remain closed for traffic from June 12 to 25. MC officials have asked the general public to take alternative routes to their destinations. TNS Commendation certificates Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration on the advice of committee for grant of commendations certificate on the occasion Republic/Independence Day has decided that all recomm-endations for the award of certificates will be entertained at http://chandigarh.gov.in. People have been accordingly requested to forward the names of such persons (non-officials) online for the award to commendation certificate. “While recommending the names for award of commendation certificates, recommendation/citations may be supported by attested copies of documents. No recommendation will be entertained after July 31,” officials said. Professionals, architects, designers, students, citizens, thinkers, activists and environmentalists can avail this opportunity to have their ideas implemented as part of the CSCL place making project. The themes of mobility, neighbourhood, community and economy have been selected for entries for the two sectors. Accordingly, first and second prize of Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively, will be given as per recommendations of the appointed Jury. Last date for receiving competition entries has been extended to June 18. TNS Man hangs life Ambala: An unidentified man in his late 40s allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Mullana.
