Come forward to curb drug menace: IGP Rai to residents

The IGP said the Chief Minister has made a special task force (STF) to curb drug menace in Punjab. Those present on the occasion also listened to the chief minister’s address on tackling drug menace. He said residents should take an initiative and come forward to curb drug nuisance in the state. They said there were three government, five private de-addiction centres and six private rehabilitation centres in Patiala. As many as 5,254 OPD patients, 1,070 indoor patients in 2018 and 2,287 OPD patients and 483 indoor patients till May this year had been treated at government run de-addiction centres in the Patiala district.

Patiala Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) AS Rai, who was the chief guest, took an oath along with citizens to work towards eliminating drugs from the state. The IGP said the Chief Minister has made a special task force (STF) to curb drug menace in Punjab. Those present on the occasion also listened to the chief minister’s address on tackling drug menace. Rai said the government would establish offices of the NCB in the state. He said residents should take an initiative and come forward to curb drug nuisance in the state. Officials said the Health Department was providing various facilities to drug addicts to overcome addiction. They said there were three government, five private de-addiction centres and six private rehabilitation centres in Patiala. As many as 5,254 OPD patients, 1,070 indoor patients in 2018 and 2,287 OPD patients and 483 indoor patients till May this year had been treated at government run de-addiction centres in the Patiala district. Officials said 2,170 patients were registered at 12 OOAT centres in the city to date. The Health Department provides various services, including regular sensitisation, HIV and HCV screening, providing free of cost medicines and holds skill development courses, among others.
