Panchkula-based Hansraj Public School has asked parents to shell out Rs 5,000 for the installation of air-conditioners in all the classrooms. The school has asked parents to to make payment in one go or in two instalments of Rs 2,500 each. “As you all know that due to global warming, weather conditions are getting warmer and warmer day-to-to day. HS Saini, District Education Officer, Panchkula said, “We will seek an explanation from the school on the receipt of parents’ complaint.”

The school has asked parents to to make payment in one go or in two instalments of Rs 2,500 each. “As you all know that due to global warming, weather conditions are getting warmer and warmer day-to-to day. It has become inconvenient for children to concentrate in their studies,” reads the circular, a copy of which is with Chandigarh Tribune. The circular further reads, “Requests from parents’ quarters keep pouring regarding the installation of air conditioners. Considering their request, the school management has decided to install air conditioners in all the classrooms. It goes without saying that it cannot be done without your goodwill and cooperation as it requires huge economic involvement.” Mahesh Dheer, a parent said, “The circular is being forced on us and is totally illegal. We are paying all the charges, including tuition fee and yearly development charges. The school has already increased the fee fee by almost 10 per cent in April 2019.” He said, “Last year, the school had asked for our consent to install the ACs to which we had denied. This year, the school has forced us to give money for the ACs. Due to electricity fluctuation even fans do not work properly in the school. So how will the ACs work?” Nitin Goyal, president, Parent Association said, “This is totally illegal. The school has given a funny justification of global warming for installing air conditioners. In reality, ACs cause global warming.” School Principal Jaya Bhardwaj failed to respond despite repeated calls. HS Saini, District Education Officer, Panchkula said, “We will seek an explanation from the school on the receipt of parents’ complaint.”
