No takers for courses at regional centres

As per data received from the university, most of the seats in BTech courses at Yadavindra College of Engineering, Talwandi Sabo, were lying vacant. Almost all the seats for various courses, including MBA, MCA, MTech, BSC, BCom and MCom at the university’s regional centre for Information Technology and Management in Mohali were lying vacant. Dr Pushpinder Singh Gill, Dean External Centres, Punjabi University, said the varsity was not able to manage the centres well. We need to visit the campuses frequently.”Dr BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, claimed the situation of regional centres was much better than previous years.

As per data received from the university, most of the seats in BTech courses at Yadavindra College of Engineering, Talwandi Sabo, were lying vacant. The college has been able to fill less than 10 seats out of 240 seats in BTech computer science engineering, mechanical engineering and electronic engineering by July 10. Guru Kashi Campus Talwandi Sabo School of Business Studies has registered only four students for BBA and three for BCom. At the same time, neighbourhood campus at Jaito has enrolled 30 students for BCA, while seats for MCA and PGDCA were lying vacant. Almost all the seats for various courses, including MBA, MCA, MTech, BSC, BCom and MCom at the university’s regional centre for Information Technology and Management in Mohali were lying vacant. On the other hand, Baba Dhian Dass neignbourhood campus, Mansa, has enrolled over 100 students in BA and 25 in BCom. Punjabi University Guru Kashi College, Damdama Sahib, sold over 1,247 prospectus, counselling for which was held on Friday. Dr Pushpinder Singh Gill, Dean External Centres, Punjabi University, said the varsity was not able to manage the centres well. Dr Gill said the university was not able to manage the centres well. “Wherever there is a lapse on part of the officials, immediate action should be taken against them. We need to visit the campuses frequently.” Dr BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, claimed the situation of regional centres was much better than previous years. He said, “We are devising a strategy to ensure more admissions and reach the target groups with help of electronic, print and online media. Teachers of colleges concerned are on their toes and going in the field to enroll more students.” The centre heads said the admission process would continue as per the directions of the university. They said trend of going abroad among students was to be blamed for low number of admission seekers.
