‘The Tempest’ staged in psycho-physical form

Our CorrespondentChandigarh, July 15The city audience was treated to a rare delight of theatre art form of psycho-physical technique when William Shakespear’s immortal play “The Tempest” was staged at the Randhawa Auditorium here today. The 70-minute play presented by Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with Suchetak Rang Manch was evolved during a teh 15-day theatre workshop on body movements conducted by Partho Bannerji, a National School of Drama alumnus at the Suchetak Complex, Mohali. More than 30 prodigious actors in the age group of 16 to 30 years were imparted training by Partho duly coordinated by Suchetak director Anita Shabdeesh. The play set on a sleepy island dealt with both tragic and comic themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge and family. The actors trained in a short span displayed versatility while playing complex characters like the protagonist sorcerer Prospero (Avninder Singh), his daughter Miranda (Suchi Virdi), Caliban (Rahul Rai) and Ariel, besides Alonso (Mandeep Mani), Sebastian (Arman Sandhu) and more.
