Dengue drive to kick off on July 19, community participation sought

Tribune News ServicePatiala, July 15Following a sudden rise in the detection of dengue larvae in Patiala, the district administration will be organising a mass dengue awareness drive, on July 19. In the meeting, it was decided that a mass dengue awareness drive ‘Iss Shukarvaar Dengue Par Vaar’ will be observed on Friday to curb the spread of dengue. After the meeting, DC Kumar Amit and district Health Department launched a dengue awareness poster. During the said mass awareness drive, the sarpanches and Municipal Councillor (MC) will be involved to reach at the grassroots level where it is most needed. Moreover, Health experts said since there had been no medicine to prevent the dengue, awareness was the only key to curb the spread.

Patiala, July 15 Following a sudden rise in the detection of dengue larvae in Patiala, the district administration will be organising a mass dengue awareness drive, on July 19. A meeting in this regard was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kumar Amit. In the meeting, it was decided that a mass dengue awareness drive ‘Iss Shukarvaar Dengue Par Vaar’ will be observed on Friday to curb the spread of dengue. After the meeting, DC Kumar Amit and district Health Department launched a dengue awareness poster. During the said mass awareness drive, the sarpanches and Municipal Councillor (MC) will be involved to reach at the grassroots level where it is most needed. Apart from this, around 100 NCC cadets of 25 schools in the district, and students of Classes IX to XII of 95 schools will participate in the drive, informed the health officials. Until now, around 4 lakh houses have been covered by the Health Department, and dengue larva have been detected at 1,566 places, so far. DC Kumar Amit said that to curb the dengue menace, community participation was must. He said, “It is impossible to inspect 5.50 lakh households in the city, therefore, people’s participation is must to tackle the dengue.” As many as four teams have, already, been formed involving officials from Municipal Corporation and the Health Department. Moreover, Health experts said since there had been no medicine to prevent the dengue, awareness was the only key to curb the spread. District epidemiologist, Dr Sumeet Singh said, “Dengue larvae can breed in a small water cap and that too in clean water, so, people should dry out water from desert coolers, pots, and tyres – once in a week.” Under the mass awareness drive, the sarpanches and Municipal Councillor will be roped in to reach at the grassroots level where it is most needed. Apart from this, around 100 NCC cadets of 25 schools in the district, and students of Classes IX to XII of 95 schools will participate in the drive.
