Accident snuffs out three lives

Tribune News ServicePatiala, July 15In a tragic rear-end road accident, three persons lost their lives on Sunday night on Rajpura – Ambala National Highway -1. A speeding car rammed into a Celerio car which had already stuck into the debris and sand – lying on the highway for the construction work of the road. In the meanwhile, another speeding car rammed into the stuck Celerio Car — leaving all three dead on the spot. The police said that the accused car driver left his car on the spot and managed to escape. The eye witnesses informed that accident took place allegedly due to the negligence of the National Highway authorities as diversion lacked signboards.

Patiala, July 15 In a tragic rear-end road accident, three persons lost their lives on Sunday night on Rajpura – Ambala National Highway -1. A speeding car rammed into a Celerio car which had already stuck into the debris and sand – lying on the highway for the construction work of the road. All three deceased have been identified: Celerio born Sunil Sukhija and his relative Suraj Kanta —who were returning to Ludhiana from Delhi — and Gurpreet Singh of Banur the passer-by who was helping the occupants of the Celerio. According to the police , the incident took place at around midnight when a car stuck into the debris and sand – lying on the highway for the construction work of the road. A car-born passer-by pulled his car on the roadside and came forward to help the two occupants – girl and a boy — of the car which was stuck. In the meanwhile, another speeding car rammed into the stuck Celerio Car — leaving all three dead on the spot. The police said that the accused car driver left his car on the spot and managed to escape. However, the police said that raids were on to nab him. Till now, no case has been registered against the NH authorities, so far, for leaving the construction material in the way, but the police are probing the matter thoroughly. The eye witnesses informed that accident took place allegedly due to the negligence of the National Highway authorities as diversion lacked signboards. It is learned that the officials of Toll Plaza on Rajpura – Ambala had, already, been requested to put adequate number of sign boards and install proper lights for the commuters to see the area under-construction during the night. Surinder Singh, investigating officer (IO), said that the police had registered the case, and investigations were underway.
