Chandigarh, July 14 Nimanpreet Kaur defeated Shagunpreet in a 55-minute long match of the girls’ U-19 category on the opening day of the 1st Chandigarh State Ranking Tournament, organised by the Chandigarh Badminton Association, at the Sector 38 (West) Sports Complex here today. Nimanpreet registered a come-from-behind 19-21 21-17 21-11 victory over Shagunpreet to move ahead in the championship. Meanwhile, in the third round matches of the girls’ U-17 category, Ananya Yadav eased past Jasmeet Kaur 21-19 21-17, while Tanya Sharma beat Harshita Thakur 21-15 21-15. Mannat Saini, a trainee of the Sector 38 Sports Complex, also advanced by defeating Khushi Godara 18-21 21-9 21-14 in yet another tight affair. Shagunpreet defeated Srishti Madaan 21-9 21-5, while Kanishka was awarded a walk-over against Anugeet Kaur. Samreen Kaur Sandhu also logged a 21-3 21-2 win against Simarpreet Kaur and Mili Verma blanked Tanisha Giri 21-15 21-6.
