50 docs attend CME on onco-surgery

Tribune news serviceChandigarh, July 16As many as 50 doctors of the tricity attended a continuing medical education (CME) on ‘Recent advances in onco-surgery and management of multiple sclerosis’ at a hotel here last night. Among other, Dr BS Bhatia and Dr MS Trehan, president and secretary of Forum, respectively were also presented during the CME. “In present days, we preserve the structure and function of organs so that patients can live good life after treatment and cure. “With very good chemotherapy drugs and targeted agent and advanced radiotherapy, result of treatment has also increased,” he added. Sanjay Mishra, a neurophysician, said multiple sclerosis (MS) was a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).

The CME was organised in association with the Physicians Forum, Chandigarh. Among other, Dr BS Bhatia and Dr MS Trehan, president and secretary of Forum, respectively were also presented during the CME. Speaking at the CME, Dr Vijay Bansal, an onco-surgeon, said nowadays, during cancer treatment, sometimes side-effects of the treatment would force patients to avoid proper treatment, however with recent advances in surgical oncology, the side-effects are less. “In present days, we preserve the structure and function of organs so that patients can live good life after treatment and cure. Now, cancer surgery can be performed laparoscopically (without any cut on abdomen or chest),” said Dr Bansal. “With very good chemotherapy drugs and targeted agent and advanced radiotherapy, result of treatment has also increased,” he added.
