Two youths arrested for vehicle thefts, burglaries

Sent to police remand; 10 two-wheelers recovered Chandigarh, July 18 Two thieves, who had committed burglary at a wine shop in Dhanas and two showrooms in Sector 37, have landed in the UT police net. The police have also recovered ten stolen two-wheelers and other valuables from them. A team led by Inspector Ram Rattan, SHO, Sarangpur police station, nabbed the suspects, identified as Robin (19), a resident of Sector 25, and Raj (21), a resident of Dadu Majra village. The police said the suspects had committed a theft at a wine shop in Dhanas in May this year. They had decamped with around Rs 60,000 from the shop. The suspects used the stolen money to buy three boxes of body supplements, a mixer grinder, two pairs of shoes and a T-shirt. “The suspects are addicted to heroin and had also spent money on buying the drug for consumption,” said a police official. The police said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to having committed thefts at two showrooms in Sector 37 on the intervening night of June 23 and 24. They had stolen cash from the shops and purchased mobile phones and other household articles with it. Apart from these two cases, the suspects were also involved in vehicle thefts in the city and Mohali. Ten stolen two-wheelers were recovered from them, the police said. The suspects stole two-wheelers and used them to commit burglaries. Later, they used to abandon these vehicles in forest areas of Dhanas and Togan, the police said. The duo was produced in the court today. They have been sent to two-day police remand. The police said Robin was also involved in a case of burglary registered at the Sector 34 police station and a case of quarrel registered at the Sector 11 police station.
