Panchkula, July 18 In a case of hit-and-run, a 74-year-old woman was killed after a rashly driven truck hit the motorcycle on which she, along with her son, was returning home after visiting the Command Hospital in the MDC area this afternoon. The victim has been identified as Leela Sharma, a resident of AKS Colony in Zirakpur. In his complaint to the police, the victim’s son Kiran Sharma stated that the incident took place around 12.20 pm when they left the hospital for their home. As soon as they crossed the gate of the hospital, which is situated opposite Sector 6 here, a truck hit the rear of the bike and sped away. As the mother-son duo fell on the road, a tyre of the truck ran over the woman’s face. Kiran said he had also received injuries. Passersby took them to the Sector 6 civil hospital where doctors declared her mother dead. He was discharged from the hospital after first aid. On his complaint, a case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver under Sections 279 and 304A of the IPC at the Sector 5 police station. Kiran had managed to note down the registration number of the truck. The police have started an investigation into the case.
