Punjab cop’s service pistol stolen, arrested

Chandigarh, August 20A bag containing the service pistol of a Punjab cop was stolen from outside the passport office in the Industrial Area, Phase II. ASI Govinder Singh, who is posted in the CIA, Bathinda, stated that he and his wife had come to the passport office to get passports made on August 19. He reported that since he was not allowed to take anything inside, he kept the bag containing his 9 mm pistol at the stall of a tea vendor. Tea vendor Tilak Raj expressed ignorance about the bag. The cop was booked under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant or by banker, merchant or agent).

On returning after over two hours, he found the bag missing. Tea vendor Tilak Raj expressed ignorance about the bag. A case of theft was registered at the Sector 31 police station.
