Our Correspondent Kharar, September 11 A food delivery agent was killed as a hydra crane collided with his motorcycle on the Mohali road here last night. The deceased has been identified as Keshav Sharma (19), a native of Dhanaula in Barnala district. An employee of Zomato a food aggregator, the youth was going from the Kharar side towards Mohali around 10 pm when the mishap took place near Sunny Enclave. The police said a hydra crane heading towards Kharar knocked down the victim’s bike. He sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mohali where doctors declared him brought dead. The bike was badly damaged in the collision. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Baldev Singh, the driver of the crane, at the Kharar City police station. Meanwhile, the victim’s colleagues today held a protest and blocked traffic on the Mohali-Kharar road for about an hour and a half, alleging a delay in police action. The protesters went to the Sunny Enclave police post in the morning today and demanded a copy of the FIR registered in the incident. ASI Nidhan Singh, incharge of the police post, reportedly told them that an FIR had been registered against the crane driver but the protesters did not believe him and staged a dharna at Nijjer Chowk on the Kharar-Mohali road. They raised slogans against the police. As they did not lift the dharna despite repeated requests, Amanpreet Singh, SHO, Sadar Police, traffic incharge Harspal and Kharar City Police officials used a mild force to remove them. The victim’s associates, Harman Singh, Harjit, Davinder Singh and Gurvinder Singh, alleged that when the accident took place, they informed the police on different phones but cops arrived at the spot very late. They alleged that cops also delayed the registration of case against the suspect. Refuting the allegations, ASI Nidhan Singh said the police had reached the spot immediately but no family member of the deceased was present there. They took action after recording the statement of the victim’s father, he added.
