Youth sent to 10 years in jail for raping minor

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, September 18A local court today sentenced a 24-year-old youth to 10-year imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl in 2016. According to the prosecution, on October 4, 2016, an FIR was registered under Section 363 of the IPC at the IT Park police station. In the complaint, the victim’s father stated that a person, a resident of a village in Rae Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, had taken away his daughter. During investigation, the family of the accused stated that their son had brought a girl along with him, but he was not living with them. On June 16, 2017, the police recovered the minor girl and the accused residing in Dalmou of Rae Bareilly.

Chandigarh, September 18 A local court today sentenced a 24-year-old youth to 10-year imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl in 2016. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict. According to the prosecution, on October 4, 2016, an FIR was registered under Section 363 of the IPC at the IT Park police station. In the complaint, the girl’s father stated that on July 13, 2016, his daughter left the house without informing anyone about 9 pm. After she did not return, they started searching for her. When their efforts proved futile, he approached the police. In the complaint, the victim’s father stated that a person, a resident of a village in Rae Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, had taken away his daughter. During investigation, the family of the accused stated that their son had brought a girl along with him, but he was not living with them. On June 16, 2017, the police recovered the minor girl and the accused residing in Dalmou of Rae Bareilly. Later, the girl was handed over to her family. In her statement recorded in the court, the victim stated on July 13, 2016, the accused made her consume cold drink laced with some intoxicated substance and took her to Rae Bareilly by alluring her and raped her several times. After this statement, the police added Sections 366 and 376 of IPC and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to the FIR and arrested the accused. The defence counsel argued that the accused had been falsely implicated and both were having an affair. They wanted to get married and that’s why they went to Uttar Pradesh. After hearing arguments, the court awarded 10-year imprisonment to the accused.
