IN BRIEF Chandigarh: A case of attempt to murder has been registered after a resident of Daria village was stabbed on Tuesday. According to the police, the complainant, Vikash, alleged that a person, identified as Vipin, stabbed him at Daria. The victim was rushed to the GMCH-32 in a PCR vehicle. A case has been registered at the Industrial Area police station. The suspect is absconding. The police said raids were being conducted to nab him. TNS Man attacked, robbed of Rs 1K Chandigarh: Four unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked a Kishangarh resident and robbed him of cash and documents on September 17. According to the police, the complainant, Neeraj, reported that unknown persons attacked with a sharp weapon near the Shastri Nagar light point. They robbed him of Rs 1,000, a driving licence and an Aadhaar card. The police were informed after which a case under Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons at the IT Park police station. TNS Dera Bassi: Two motorcyclists tricked a car owner and allegedly looted a bag containing valuables near Zirakpur. The incident occurred when the victim, a resident of Chandigarh, was about to take a U-turn near the Zirakpur and Chandigarh barrier. The victim, in his complaint, alleged that two men waved at him to stop the car saying that fuel was leaking. As the victim alighted from his vehicle to check the leakage, the miscreants picked a bag from the car and escaped. OC Samiti chief takes charge Kharar: Ranbir Kaur, newly elected chairperson of the Kharar Block Samiti, took charge of her office on Wednesday. She also presided over the first meeting of the Block Samiti. Kharar BDPO Ranjit Singh and vice-chairman Manjit Singh were present. The members passed a resolution to improve the condition of the toilets maintained by the Block Samiti. According to police, Arjun of Ambala Cantonment had reported to the police on September 1 that the accused had assaulted him and his family members with sharp-edged and deadly weapons here on August 30 and threatened them with dire consequences. In a separate case, the same complainant had reported to the local police that the same accused had abducted his nephew Saurabh alias Manu after assaulting him from Ambala Cantonment on September 13. TNS Two assault MC staff, booked Mohali: The police have booked two persons on a complaint of Mohali MC Commissioner Bhupinder Singh on charges of assault and criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his/her duty. The suspects have been identified as Dalvir Singh, alias Neelu, and Nonu, both residents of Mataur village. The duo had assaulted MC staff and councillor Amrik Singh after the officials caught their cattle roaming on the road. “The duo not only assaulted the MC officials and councillor, but also took their animal back forcibly,” said the police. A case under Sections 353 and 186 of the IPC has been registered against the duo. TNS 5 street vendors arrested, get bail Chandigarh: Continuing the drive against the street vendors who were found obstructing the public way, five more cases were registered by the Chandigarh Police in the city on September 17. According to the police, while two cases each were registered at the Sector 17 and Sector 39 police stations, one case was registered at the Sarangpur police station. Police officials said all vendors were booked under Section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the IPC. They were arrested and later released on bail. TNS Hit by speeding car, cyclist dies Dera Bassi: A cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding car on the Ambala-Chandigarh stretch near Devinagar village here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Randhir Singh (52) of Janetpur village, Dera Bassi. The incident took place around 3.30 pm on Wednesday when Randhir, who works in a factory, was returning home after his shift. Sources said when Randhir reached near Devinagar village, a car, which was coming from Chandigarh, lost its control and hit him from the rear. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where he succumbed to his injuries. A car occupant also sustained injuries in the mishap. TNS 1,350 liquor cases seized Ambala: The police have seized a truckload of 1,350 illicit liquor boxes, which were being smuggled from other states, and arrested the driver.
