WHAT OUR READERS SAY Mohali-Landran road has developed big potholes on some of its stretches due to which commuters are facing inconvenience. Last year, two stretches on this road were repaired by laying interlocking tiles, but one is surprised to know that why the authorities left a few stretches unrepaired. The Municipal Corporation of Mohali must look into the matter and get the road repaired at the earliest as it is one of the gateways for public travelling from Chandigarh and Mohali to Kharar, Banur and further areas. Sanjay Chopra, Mohali MC splurging money on tours The cash-strapped MC has approved a proposal to send its 24 councillors to a five-day Leh tour to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Pathar Sahib as part of Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary celebrations. In the past also, the civic body had spent crores on such tours which proved a dump squib. In many cases, even reports on the so called benefits to be accrued out of these tours have not been submitted by the councillors. If councillors want to pay obeisance at gurdwaras, they should pay from their own pockets. Besides, there are reports that several officers, who had earlier undertaken such unfruitful tours, have been transferred to their parents’ cadre. Thus this huge money has burdened the taxpayers. Also, owing to paucity of funds in the MC, all major development works have come to a standstill and even maintenance of roads and street lights is not being carried out. This proves that these tours are undertaken for leisure and pleasure only at the cost of public exchequer. The administration needs to take cognisance of the matter seriously. SK Khosla, chandigarh Foot overbridges remain unused Though huge money is spent on the construction of foot overbridges, they remain largely unused. As a result, these are becoming a locus point for drug addicts and drunkards. Also, there is no provision of light in foot overbridges, which prevents people from using these. The authorities concerned should take adequate steps so that these can serve the purpose for which they are built for. Charu Malhotra, mohali What our readers say Is a civic issue bothering you?
