33 challans issued in city

The staff led by Civil Surgeon Harish Malhotra inspected Arna Barna Chowk, Books Market, Anardana Chowk, Dal Dalia Chowk and Ragho Majra. According to the Health Department, larvae has been destroyed at 7,899 spots. However, only 634 challans have been issued to date. He asked the residents to keep waste material in covered areas so that rainwater does not get collected in them.

DRIVE AGAINST DENGUE Patiala, September 20 The Health Department today issued 33 challans to residents after detecting larvae during the ‘Friday Dry Day’ dengue drive. The staff led by Civil Surgeon Harish Malhotra inspected Arna Barna Chowk, Books Market, Anardana Chowk, Dal Dalia Chowk and Ragho Majra. According to the Health Department, larvae has been destroyed at 7,899 spots. However, only 634 challans have been issued to date. District Epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh said though breeding indices of aedes aegypti mosquito has decreased, but larvae has been detected in containers, including earthen pots, pot trays and tyres among others. He asked the residents to keep waste material in covered areas so that rainwater does not get collected in them. He also advised people to stop using water in desert coolers. Dr Malhotra expressed satisfaction on activities being carried out as dengue positive cases in the district have been restricted to 36 against 349 during the same period last year.
