Girls harassed near MCM college, 1 held

Chandigarh, October 20Two persons have been booked by the local police for allegedly harassing women. In one of the incidents, the PCR staff nabbed Sanjay Kumar of Dadu Majra Colony for allegedly making objectionable gestures and passing lewd remarks at girls and women near MCM college, Sector 36. The girls had informed the police about the suspect, who was nabbed near the choe behind the college on October 19. This is the second arrest made by the police this week for harassing girls near the college. In another incident, a woman alleged that Jitender of Maloya teased and thrashed her at Maloya Colony on October 16.

In one of the incidents, the PCR staff nabbed Sanjay Kumar of Dadu Majra Colony for allegedly making objectionable gestures and passing lewd remarks at girls and women near MCM college, Sector 36. The girls had informed the police about the suspect, who was nabbed near the choe behind the college on October 19. The police registered a case under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC against him at the Sector 36 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. This is the second arrest made by the police this week for harassing girls near the college. In another incident, a woman alleged that Jitender of Maloya teased and thrashed her at Maloya Colony on October 16. The victim was injured and admitted to the GMSH-16. A case under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Maloya police station. — TNS
