Haryana paddlers reign supreme

Soumyajit Ghosh blanked his Haryana state-mate Jeet Chandra 13-11 11-5 7-11 11-1 11-8 in the men’s singles final to win his first title in three years. Sutirtha Mukherjee of Haryana survived an intense battle against Prapti Sen of West Bengal to claim her maiden championship of the season. Prapti also had to face defeat in the youth singles final. Chandra, meanwhile, thrashed Maharashtra’s Deepit Rajesh Patil 11-4 11-6 12-10 14-12 to triumph in the youth singles summit clash. Delhi pair of Payas Jain and Vanshika Bhargava drubbed Anirban Ghosh and Shruti Amrute of Railways 11-8 11-6 7-11 6-11 11-9 in the mixed doubles title clash.

Chandigarh, November 11 Haryana dominated the UTT National Ranking (Central Zone) Table Tennis Championships, winning the men’s, women’s and youth boys’ titles at the SAG Sports Complex in Bhavnagar today. Soumyajit Ghosh blanked his Haryana state-mate Jeet Chandra 13-11 11-5 7-11 11-1 11-8 in the men’s singles final to win his first title in three years. Ghosh had reached the final of the 2017 Senior Nationals at Ranchi in January last year. Before that he had made a token appearance in one of the national ranking events in 2017, but failed to make any impression. Sutirtha Mukherjee of Haryana survived an intense battle against Prapti Sen of West Bengal to claim her maiden championship of the season. She won 11-3 8-11 10-12 11-2 5-11 11-6 11-9. Prapti also had to face defeat in the youth singles final. She lost 5-11 4-11 14-16 9-11 to Anusha Kutumbale of Madhya Pradesh. Chandra, meanwhile, thrashed Maharashtra’s Deepit Rajesh Patil 11-4 11-6 12-10 14-12 to triumph in the youth singles summit clash.
