PGI, GMCH OPDs closed today

BRIEFLYChandigarh: All OPDs at the PGI and the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, will remain closed on Tuesday on account of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary. As many as 8,024 patients visited the general and special OPDs and 314 patients reached the emergency OPD at the PGI on Monday. To avoid inconvenience to patients, OPDs and investigation services remained functional at the GMCH in spite of the declaration of a holiday by the UT Administration on Monday. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to the GMCH, Chandigarh, where he died later. The body has been kept at the mortuary at the GMCH for 72 hours for identification.

An official said 498 new patients registered on Monday, while 1,711 patients revisited the hospital. TNS Labourer falls to death Zirakpur: A 30-year-old construction worker reportedly died after falling from an under-construction building in Dhakoli here on Sunday. The deceased is yet to be identified, said the police. The police said the incident took place when the victim was working at the construction site. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to the GMCH, Chandigarh, where he died later. The body has been kept at the mortuary at the GMCH for 72 hours for identification. The Dhakoli police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter. OC Pedestrian hitby truck, dies Chandigarh: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a truck near the Garcha turn at Daria village on Monday evening. The victim has been identified as Ram Karas (60) of Ghazipur district in UP. He was taken to the GMCH, Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. A person, Shoaib Ansari, went to the police post at Dariya and informed it about the accident. A PCR vehicle reached the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. An FIR under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver, Krishan Kumar, who fled from the spot. The police have impounded the vehicle. Lecture on meditation, yoga Chandigarh: The Department of Art History and Visual Arts, PU, began their annual series of lectures on art and culture, ‘The Secret to success through meditation’. The lecture was delivered by Acharya Anutosh from the Indian Institute of Yoga and Management (Oshodhara). He stressed on the importance of yoga and meditation in the present day lifestyle. The occasion also marked the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. TNS Man arrested for murder Ambala: The police have arrested Kulwant, alias Kala, of Ambala Sadar for killing a local resident on October 31. A woman of Bihar had lodged a police complaint that the suspect had assaulted her husband Khumari Shah with an iron rod and the victim had succumbed to his injuries at the Ambala City Civil Hospital. The suspect will be produced before a court on Tuesday. TNS Robbery at gunpoint, 1 held Ambala: The district police have arrested Rahul Kumar of Panipat for a gunpoint robbery. In his complaint to the police, Raju of Mullana near here had stated that the suspect had robbed him of his motorcycle and wallet at gunpoint around 4 am on October 12. The suspect was produced before a local court, which remanded him in two-day police custody. TNS Fraud: Delhi man in police net Ambala: A resident of Delhi has been arrested in a case of land fraud, the police said on Monday. JP Dhawan of Rajpura in Patiala had stated in his complaint on June 30 that Satyapal, along with his accomplices, had committed a fraud in a land deal with him by preparing a forged power of attorney. The police said three other suspects had already been arrested in the case. TNS Five arrested in assault cases Ambala: The district police have arrested five persons in separate cases of assault, officials said here on Monday. Vicky, Vishal, alias Sunny, Vijay and Akash of Ambala Cantonment were nabbed on the complaint of a woman of Parav that they had assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences on October 27. The arrested suspects were released on bail. In a separate case, Naresh Kumar of Barara near here was arrested for assaulting and threatening Vinod Kumar of Barara on January 29. The suspect will be produced before a local court on Tuesday, the police said. TNS
