Animal bylaws to be up for public objections

The bylaws that assure to provide a maximum compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of a victim who dies in accident due to stray animal will be implemented in absence of objections. Sources in the Municipal Corporation (MC) said the bylaws adopted by the MC in September had been cleared by the Director, Local Government. They state that any animal found straying into the streets would be detained in the cattle pound. The 46-year-old man who they said earned Rs 40,000 per month was killed by a stray animal attack on July 15.

Sources in the Municipal Corporation (MC) said the bylaws adopted by the MC in September had been cleared by the Director, Local Government. While the maximum compensation will be provided in case of death to next of kin, those rendered disabled due to stray animal attack will be compensated in proportion to the percentage of disability in proportionate amount of Rs 1 lakh. As per the conditions in the bylaws, all animals kept within the jurisdiction area of the Local Bodies will then have to be registered before April 1 every year. Animals would need to be tagged and coded, all information regarding which will be maintained by the MC authorities. The laws have strict rules regarding loitering of animals on the streets without being secured by a chain lead. They state that any animal found straying into the streets would be detained in the cattle pound. It will be released after depositing of fixed payment to the MC along with feed and other applicable charges. Sources said, “We have received the file signed by the Director Office of Department of Local Bodies. We will issue a notice to general public, inviting objections in a day or two.” Recent case Recently, a number of court cases were filed against the Municipal Corporation (MC) after deaths of residents in attacks by stray cattle. A family filed a case in a local court demanding Rs 61.50 lakh, stating that the accident killed the only bread-winner of the family which included the man’s wife and three minor children.
