IN BRIEF Ambala: The police have arrested Sanjeev, alias Billa, of Dera Bassi in Mohali in a case of drug smuggling wherein 1.6 quintals of poppy husk was recovered in April, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Ravinder Singh, alias Jonku, of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh was caught with 1.6-quintal poppy husk hidden in a parked tanker in Naraingarh on April 8. During custodial interrogation, he revealed that Sanjeev was also involved in the smuggling of drugs. Sanjeev was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court, said the officials, adding that four other suspects involved in the case had already been arrested. TNS PO lands in police net Ambala: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), Kehar Singh, who was wanted in a case registered against him at the Ambala City police station, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, the accused had been evading arrested ever since he was booked in a criminal case, following which he was declared a proclaimed offender by a court. The fugitive was produced before a court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody, the officials said. TNS Married woman goes missing Ambala: A married woman had been reportedly missing from her home, the police said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Sursh Kumar of Baldev Nagar near here had reported to the local police that his 20-year-old wife left home on October 1, but did not return yet. The police have lodged a missing report and launched a manhunt to trace the woman. TNS City gymnast Sarthak shines Mohali: City gymnast Sarthak Walia has finished third in the 65th School National Games in Agra. A trainee of Punjab Institute of Sports, Sarthak bagged the bronze medal in parallel bar competition. Following his impressive show, the budding gymnast was selected for the Khelo India camp, starting in Assam from January 1. This is for the first time that any gymnast from Mohali has won a medal in the National School Games. TNS G Pharma XI beat PU XI by 2 wkts Chandigarh: G Pharma XI defeated PU XI by two wickets in a Champions Corporate Cricket League match here on Wednesday. Batting first, PU XI were bowled out for 95 runs in 17.2 overs. Amrinder Bajwa (34) was the top scorer for the side, while Munish chipped in with 19 runs. Ashish and Pawan claimed three wickets each. In reply, G Pharma XI reached home in 18.3 overs with just two wickets in hand. Umesh made 27, while Saurabh contributed 26 runs to the chase. TNS 21 girls for boxing camp Panchkula: Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association has selected 21 women boxers for a 15-day coaching camp to be held at the Sector 56 boxing coaching centre from November 14-28. Following the camp, 10 boxers will be shortlisted for the 4th Senior (Elite) Women’s National Boxing Championship, scheduled to be held in Kannur, Kerala, from December 2-8. TNS
