SYED MUSHTAQ ALI TROPHY Lose by five wickets to register their 2nd successive defeat Chandigarh, November 12 Chandigarh batsmen failed to put up a challenging total on board and lost to Hyderabad by five wickets at the Government Model Senior Secondary School grounds in Sector 26 here today to register their second successive loss in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The hosts had suffered a seven-wicket loss against Punjab yesterday. Opting to bat, Chandigarh had a disastrous beginning as they lost four wickets within the powerplay. While Amit Parashar was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj on naught, skipper Manan Vohra fell to Yudhvir Singh on one. In form Shivam Bhambri faced 14 balls for his 12 runs before he was sent back to the hut by Mehdi Hasan. Gaurav Puri (19) became the second victim of Hasan as the hosts slumped to 32/4 in 5.4 overs. Akash Bhandari then accounted for wicketkeeper-batsman Jaskaran Singh (14) in the 11th over to spell more trouble for Chandigarh. Bipul Sharma and Sarandeep Singh added 21 runs for the sixth wicket before Hasan struck again for the visitors. Sarandeep scored 12 runs off 11 balls before being cleaned up by Hasan. Sharma, though, batted sensibly and together with Gurinder Singh took the total to 100 runs in 17 overs. The vice-captain finally fell to Chama Milind on 35. The hosts lost the remaining three wickets for the addition of 23 runs to close their innings on 123. Gurinder was claimed by Siraj on 20, while Shresth Nirmohi remained not out on 1. Hasan (3/23) and Siraj (3/15) took three wickets apiece for the visitors. Chasing a modest total, Hyderabad reached home in 19 overs, with Sandeep Bhavanka scoring an unbeaten 32. Milind remained not out on 23, while opener Tanmay Agarwal contributed 28 runs to the chase. Nirmohi (2/23) and Sarandeep Singh (2/17) took two wickets each for the hosts. Chhattisgarh on top In another Group C fixture, Chhattisgarh maintained their winning streak as they defeated Maharashtra by 34 runs to win their fourth consecutive match and stay atop the table. Put in to bat, Chhattisgarh rode on half-centuries by opener Shashank Chandrakar and skipper Harpreet Bhatia to score 201/3 in 20 overs. Chandrakar hammered a 48-ball 80 before he was dismissed by Digvijay Deshmukh, while Bhatia remained not out on 88. His 46-ball knock was studded with six boundaries and four sixes. Vishal Singh stayed undefeated on 10. Samad Fallah (1/27) and Satyajit Bachhav (1/26) picked a wicket each for Maharashtra. Chasing a tough total, Maharashtra were all out for 167 runs in 20 overs. Pankaj Rao (3/20), Puneet Datey (3/28) and Ajay Mandal (3/19) claimed three wickets apiece. In form Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a quick-fire 61, while Naushad Shiakh hammered 52 off 26 balls. The duo though failed to guide the team home as the wickets kept falling at the other end. Abhiraj powers Punjab At Sector 16 stadium, opener Punjab Abhiraj Singh scored an unbeaten 32-ball 57 to guide Punjab to an eight-wicket win over Himachal Pradesh. Chasing 88 runs for victory, Punjab, powered by Abhiraj, scampered home in 9.3 overs. Gurkeerat Mann remained not out on 14. Abhishek Sharma chipped in with 16 runs. Earlier, Himachal batsmen dished out a listless performance and were restricted to 87/9 in the stipulated overs. Prashant Chopra was the only Himachal batsman to score in double digits. He remained not out on 46. For Punjab, Sandeep Sharma took 4/8 in his four overs, while Harpreet Brar bagged 2/18. Railways beat Arunachal In another Group C encounter, Railways registered a seven-wicket win over Arunachal Pradesh. Needing 162 runs for victory, opener Mrunal Devdhar scored a 47-ball 66 to guide Railways home. Vikrant Rajput hit a 28-ball 39, while skipper Karan Sharma remained not out on 23. Dinesh Mor contributed an unbeaten 17 to the chase. Earlier, Rahul Dalal (75) and Samarth Seth (51) hit a half-century each to push the Arunachal total to 161/5 in 20 overs.
