THRASHING OF STEPDAUGHTERTribune News ServiceChandigarh, November 14A judicial magistrate and a child counsellor today recorded their statements in a case wherein a woman was arrested for allegedly thrashing her three-year-old stepdaughter in 2017. The statement of Suman Patlain, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), was recorded through videoconferencing in the court of Additional District and Sessions judge Dr Gagan Geet Kaur today. The statement of child counsellor Apporva Gandhi was also recorded today. She told the court that Manmohan Singh, father of the child, had informed them about the incident, following which the case was transferred to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). During previous hearings, Manmohan Singh deposed against his wife and stood by his statement in the court.

THRASHING OF STEPDAUGHTER Chandigarh, November 14 A judicial magistrate and a child counsellor today recorded their statements in a case wherein a woman was arrested for allegedly thrashing her three-year-old stepdaughter in 2017. Suspect Jaspreet Kaur was caught on camera allegedly assaulting her stepdaughter after stuffing her in a gunny bag in December 2017. The video was allegedly shot by the victim’s elder brother. The suspect was arrested on December 7, 2017. The court had framed charges against Jaspreet Kaur in May under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The statement of Suman Patlain, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), was recorded through videoconferencing in the court of Additional District and Sessions judge Dr Gagan Geet Kaur today. At the time of the incident, she was posted in Chandigarh and had recorded the statement of the victim under Section 164 of the CrPC. The statement of child counsellor Apporva Gandhi was also recorded today. She told the court that Manmohan Singh, father of the child, had informed them about the incident, following which the case was transferred to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Later, it was transferred to the police. During previous hearings, Manmohan Singh deposed against his wife and stood by his statement in the court. The case will now come up for hearing on December 17.
