Four rob Mohali firm staffer of Rs 8L at gunpoint

The incident occurred around 12.30 pm on the Airport Road near TDI City traffic light point. The victim, who was on foot, alleged that the robbers came on two motorcycles and looted him at gunpoint. He added that three of the miscreants were carrying pistols, which they were brandishing at the time of the incident. Mohali, December 2 Four unidentified persons snatched a bag, containing around Rs 8 lakh, at gunpoint from a money collector of a private company here today. The incident occurred around 12.30 pm on the Airport Road near TDI City traffic light point. Four miscreants looted Rohan Thanwal (21) at gunpoint when he was on his way to his company, which is located in the Industrial Area, Phase 7, after collecting cash from the clients in the area. The victim, who was on foot, alleged that the robbers came on two motorcycles and looted him at gunpoint. “They (the miscreants) were not wearing helmets and the motorcycles were without registration numbers,” said Rohan. He added that three of the miscreants were carrying pistols, which they were brandishing at the time of the incident. “They threatened me to hand over the bag while placing a pistol on my head. When I showed some resistance, they snatched the bag and sped away,” claimed Rohan. He claimed that two-three persons immediately came to his help and also informed the police about the incident. Rohan, a resident of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, has been working with a private company which facilitates its clients in depositing money in different banks/agencies /groups etc. Inspector Manphul Singh, SHO, Balongi police station, said they had recovered the bag in question from near the community centre of Saneta village. “Bags used for money collection purpose are generally provided by the company and are equipped with GPS devices. After the incident, we tried to track the miscreants’ movement through the bag. As we (the police) had got the information about the loot around half an hour after the incident, we could only recover the bag, which was found empty,” he said. The SHO indicated that the miscreants seemed to be professionals as they apparently were aware of the fact that the bag was GPS-equipped. “We are scrutinising the CCTV footage,” he said. A case under Section 379-B has been registered against the four unidentified robbers.
