Chandigarh schools reopened from Monday

While 10th and 12th standard students were allowed to attend two-hour long school sessions in Chandigarh on Monday on slot basis, the classes of 9th and 11th standard students will follow as well.

As part of Unlock 4 guidelines, schools all over India on Monday reported partial reopening for only 9 to 12 class students.

Chandigarh schools too started reopening on Monday. The Chandigarh administration had sought consent from the parents last week.

While 50 percent of parents of children whose ward goes to government schools have the consent, whereas only 25 percent of the parents whose children are studying in private schools are in favour of opening the schools.

"We are giving preference to the students who do not have access to the internet or smartphones. Online classes will continue to be run for those not attending the schools," Preety, Principal of Government Model Senior Secondary school, Sector 47D, Chandigarh said.

It is worth mentioning here that only 10 students have been allowed to attend a particular class where the classroom size is small and large classrooms can accommodate only 15 students.

Students have been asked to bring their own sanitisers besides written consent from their parents to enter the schools where thermal scanning is being done at the entry points.
