Three phones confiscated from a barrack in Burail jail

AIG (Prisons) Virat said a special team constituted to conduct surprise checks in the barracks recovered the phones from the cells in barrack number 10.

In a surprise search conducted by the Burail jail authorities on Saturday night, three mobile phones, including a smartphone is recovered from a barrack.

“Two were basic phones while another was a smartphone,” he added.

News reports claim one of the mobile phones was recovered from an inmate, Kali, who was said to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Sector 49 police station has registered an FIR into the matter and soon they will investigate how the inmates managed to procure mobile phones in the jail.

“It will also be investigated as to whom the calls were made from these phones,” said a police official.

Earlier this year, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had issued a notification making the use of phone or its accessories by prisoners a criminal offence in Chandigarh.
