135 unregistered guesthouses served notices

DHARAMSHALA: Tourism department has served notices on 135 unregistered guesthouses , most of which are in Dharamkot area of Dharamshala tehsil in Kangra district. These agencies have problem with the unregistered guesthouses as they do not maintain records of visitors and also not comply with other necessary conditions. Few hotels in Channi, Damtal and Nurpur border areas were sealed," superintendent of police Sanjeev Gandhi said. "We have also prepared a list of the hotels on the border areas which were not maintaining proper records like lack of thorough checking of CCTV cameras among others. like installing CCTV cameras.District tourism officer Jagan Thakur said, "The guesthouse owners have been summoned to file affidavits as they were not registered.

It also sealed a few hotels in the adjoining areas for not maintaining proper records.Since there are no hotels in Dharamkot, the shepherd community (gaddi) living there has turned their homes into guesthouses for Israeli tourists coming for long stay. The owners of these houses cannot apply for registration even under the homestay scheme since they fall within urban area of the municipal corporation, sources said.Since the Dalai Lama stays in McLeodganj and the area has Army cantonments, it remains under the scanner of investigation agencies. These agencies have problem with the unregistered guesthouses as they do not maintain records of visitors and also not comply with other necessary conditions. like installing CCTV cameras.District tourism officer Jagan Thakur said, "The guesthouse owners have been summoned to file affidavits as they were not registered."Police headquarters have given a list of about 200 such properties across the district. "We have also prepared a list of the hotels on the border areas which were not maintaining proper records like lack of thorough checking of CCTV cameras among others. Few hotels in Channi, Damtal and Nurpur border areas were sealed," superintendent of police Sanjeev Gandhi said.
