Will urge UGC to lift freeze on appointments: VC

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University vice-chancellor professor Arun Kumar Grover will put forward the demand of the University's senate members that PU be allowed to fill the sanctioned vacant posts of teachers in a meeting with ministry of human resource development (HRD) and University Grants Commission (UGC) officials on April 26.The Centre had frozen recruitments when the financial crisis of the University escalated. PU had submitted a report on March 14 on the UGC's objections to the action plan for the next five years, in which it was stated that the University would not be able to reduce their deficit to zero in three years.Around 1,300 sanctioned teaching posts have been lying vacant in the University.Senate members had in the past raised the issue that the matter needs to be taken up with the UGC, since there are departments having only one teacher in the University .
