Man, son and kin arrested for woman’s murder

In his police complaint, Amarjeet said his cousin got married to Ajmer Singh 27 years ago. A case of murder was registered on the complaint of Amarjeet Singh of Taprain, cousin of the deceased. The arrested accused include Ajmer Singh of Burj Kacha, his brothers Jaswant Singh and Himmat Singh, son Pushpinder Singh and nephew Biker Singh. They were booked on Saturday for the murder of 45-year-old Balwinder Kaur. They disposed of her body in the Sirhind canal.Police said on June 14, Ajmer Singh got the missing report of his wife lodged. A case of murder was registered on the complaint of Amarjeet Singh of Taprain, cousin of the deceased. In his police complaint, Amarjeet said his cousin got married to Ajmer Singh 27 years ago. He said Ajmer Singh suspected the deceased of infidelity and allegedly murdered her in collusion with his brothers, son and nephew.Machiwara police booked the accused under sections 302 (murder), 201 (Disappearance of evidence), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Khanna SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said police launched a manhunt after a case was registered against the accused. He said police set up a check post near Powat area and stopped an Indica car bearing registration number PB10CU-2195 coming from Khari village.Police checked the vehicle and found that the occupants were the accused in the murder case. They were arrested. On being interrogated, the accused said they beat up Balwinder on the intervening night of June 13 and 14 with a wooden stick and inflicted a head injury with a sharp-edged weapon. After killing Balwinder, they threw her body into the canal near Pawat bridge. They also said the vehicle of the accused was seized and the wooden stick used in the crime was recovered. Police are searching for the body.
