Now, get unreserved rail tickets through mobile app

LUDHIANA: Northern Railways authorities will soon provide unreserved tickets to rail commuters through a mobile app, as the Indian Railways takes another major step towards its initiative for paperless ticketing. Moreover, rail commuters will be able to get a hard copy of the tickets from the vending machines installed for that purpose at the station. "One of the rail commuters, Rajan Sharma, stated: "I have got my unreserved tickets after standing for more than two to three hours at general ticket counters. If the railways starts this facility at Ludhiana station — which is considered one of the biggest stations under Northern Railways authorities — then the passenger's time can be saved." He further claimed that "as per the plan, one may have to download the app from the Google Play store for Android-based mobile phones.

Apart from being a green initiative, the paperless ticketing system will also save time for passengers, as it allows them to avoid lining up at the ticket window.A senior official of the Ferozepur Division stated: "With a view to ease the rush at the general ticketing counters, Northern Railways authorities will start providing general tickets through a mobile app. It is not clear yet when this facility will begin, but within two to three months, it will start at local stations coming under the Ferozepur Division." He further claimed that "as per the plan, one may have to download the app from the Google Play store for Android-based mobile phones. After the download, the user will get a registration ID number for creation of a railway e-wallet.
