5 mobiles recovered from jail

The police have booked Tajinder Singh, Avtar Singh, Pargat Singh, Badal Singh, and Joga Singh under Section 52 of the Prison Act. Cops, however, had failed to recover any mobile phone from him. Two days later, jail officials had recovered a mobile phone from another inmate, Balwinder Singh , and had registered an FIR. LUDHIANA: The Central Jail staff recovered five mobile phones — hidden in a drainage pipe — from inmates on Tuesday. The officials also recovered five Sim cards and a mobile phone battery during the checking.

The police have booked Tajinder Singh, Avtar Singh, Pargat Singh, Badal Singh, and Joga Singh under Section 52 of the Prison Act. Jail superintendent SP Khanna said: "The inmates have been booked, but we will also book those on whose name the Sim cards have been issued. It will also be verified as to who delivered the mobiles inside the jail."Earlier too on 2 June, the police had recovered 16 mobile phones from inside the barracks. The Central Jail in Ludhiana was recently in the centre of a controversy after some inmates uploaded a video on Facebook in which an inmate was being thrashed inside the jail. In another case, an inmate had uploaded his selfie with other inmates on his Facebook profile from inside the jail. Soon after this incident, jail authorities had recovered two mobile phones from inmates. However, they could not recover any smartphone through which Facebook could be operated.On 10 May, two murder convicts — Gurpreet Singh and Raghuwinder Singh — and an undertrial, Goverdhan, were booked after Gurpreet had uploaded their selfies on his Facebook profile. Cops, however, had failed to recover any mobile phone from him. Two days later, jail officials had recovered a mobile phone from another inmate, Balwinder Singh , and had registered an FIR.
