CHANDIGARH: There is good news for fitness freak women of the city, as they will soon have an exclusive place to work out. For availing the facility , women will have to become a member of the Mahila Bhawan for which they will be charged a nominal fee.Mayor Asha Jaswal said many women want to work out in gyms, but feel uncomfortable. Former mayor and area councillor Arun Sood, who had been pressing for the gym, said a tender has been floated for installing equipment. "This gym will give them space to exercise comfortably," she said. "The gym is expected to be made functional shortly ," said Sood.

CHANDIGARH: There is good news for fitness freak women of the city, as they will soon have an exclusive place to work out. The Chandigarh municipal corporation is coming up with an all-woman air-conditioned gym , the first in the city, at Mahila Bhawan in Sector 38.The authorities plan to install state-of-the-art fitness machines, including treadmills, exercise bikes , pendulum trainers, weights, elliptical machine, air walker, sit up board, parallel bars, sit pedal trainer, body rider, shoulder exerciser and steppers.Physical trainers will assist the gym-goers. For availing the facility , women will have to become a member of the Mahila Bhawan for which they will be charged a nominal fee.Mayor Asha Jaswal said many women want to work out in gyms, but feel uncomfortable. Former mayor and area councillor Arun Sood, who had been pressing for the gym, said a tender has been floated for installing equipment. "The gym is expected to be made functional shortly ," said Sood. The civic body has decid ed to set up gyms at all 45 community centres in different sectors of the city .For using the facility, residents will have to pay a nominal fee. To begin with, the corporation plans to set up a gym at Sector 46 community centre, for which a tender has been floated.The corporation is also in the process of installing openair gyms in green belts and parks. Fitness equipment will be installed in a phased manner. There are 56 sectors in Chandigarh that have been further divided into four parts -A, B, C and D -by a V4 road.In the first phase, the corporation has set up open-air gyms at six locations with 10 non-electrical fitness machines at each at a cost of around Rs 60 lakh. The facility is open to residents free of cost.Recently, the corporation floated a tender for hiring a firm to install the equipment at five green belts -sectors 18, 19, 21, 27 and 28-with a deadline of two months to finish the work at a cost of Rs 27.9 lakh
