Man booked for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 23.98 lakh

PANCHKULA: The police have booked a resident of Billa village here for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 23.96 lakh on account of land acquisition for NH 73 from the office of district revenue officer (DRO) two year ago.Identified as Kali Ram , the accused has been booked in a case of cheating and fraud registered against him at Chandimandir police station on Monday. SHO Lalit Kumar said that the no arrest has been made and the investigating officer is examining the documents. According to information, the registration came following the communication from DRO on the complaint of Sudarshan Krishan , a resident of Chandigarh, the actual owner of the said land.According to information, Kali Ram had sold off his land to Sudarshan Krishan more than a decade ago. But government had not changed the mutation in the revenue records. Meanwhile, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had started the exercise for the widening of the National Highway 73 and the land acquisition collector has initiated the proceedings.Sources informed that despite the fact that Sudarshan sold the land in 1989, the same had no entry in revenue records. As the lAC collector announced compensation, Kali Ram withdrew the compensation with Rs 23.96 lakh two years ago.Sources said when Sudarshan came to know about the withdrawal she approached the DRO office for the correction of entry in revenue records. During verification, it came to light that Kali Ram had withdrawn the money."We are trying to match the records and are in the process of recording the statement. Appropriate action will follow," said Inspector Lalit Kumar, the SHO of Chandimandir police station.
