SNIPPETS Chandigarh: Excise and taxation officer Ramesh Bhateja and RL Chugh were granted anticipatory bail by a local court on Wednesday. The duo were arrested on the complaint of a liquor contractor. Former Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner Ravinder Kaushik was also booked. Earlier, liquor contractor Kamaljeet Bajaj had filed a harassment complaint against the trio. The court had ordered the police to lodge an FIR then. However, the three applied for bail, which was granted to them on Wednesday. TNS Man outrages girl's modesty Chandigarh: A man, in an inebriated condition, entered a house in Sector 38 and outraged the modesty of a 19-year-old girl. The accused, Ravi, a resident of Sector 38, was later arrested by the police. The accused abused the victim and threatened her. He was thrown out of the house and the police were called. A case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered. TNSChandigarh: The Motor Vehicle Claims Tribunal has directed an insurance firm to pay Rs 29.41 lakh as relief to the family of an accident victim. Five persons were killed in the accident in 2015 and family members of one of the deceased had approached the court for compensation. Sandeep Singh Sachdeva was one of the deceased in an accident that took place on January 26, 2015. His family had sought Rs 50 lakh compensation. Sachdeva and his friends were going to Shimla when the car fell into a gorge. TNSKharar: The police have arrested two persons on charge of cruelty to animals. A case under the Presentation of Cruelty to Animals Act - 1990 has been registered against the accused. ASI Sikander Singh of the Kharar city police got the information that three persons - Sabbudin, Samshar and Umar Draz - all residents of Saharanpur area, were coming from the HP side with 13 cattle loaded in a canter (UP-11T-2701) in a cruel manner. The police impounded the vehicle along with the cattle. Two of them - Sabbudin and Samshar - have been arrested while the third accused fled the spot. OC Theft at house Kharar: The police have registered a case against unknown persons for committing a theft at a house in Shivalik City, here. The complainant, Ajay Kumar Bantha, a resident of Pathankot, told the police that his brother-in-law had gone to the US on July 24, 2017, after locking his house in Shivalik City. On September 3, the complainant got a call from Kharar that a grill of his brother-in-law’s house was broken. He came to Kharar and found that the locks of the house were broken and thieves had taken away valuables. The police have registered a case. OC Three booked for fraud Kharar: The police have registered a case against Sunil Kumar, Hasanpreet Singh and Rajinder Pal Singh, all residents of Bathinda, under Sections 406, 420 and 120B, IPC, for committing a fraud with several persons on the pretext of getting them visa for Portugal. Jatinder Singh of Ludhiana complained to the police that after reading an advertisement of Make Life Visa Consultants, Kharar, in some newspapers, he contacted them. He was later asked to come to Kharar. He handed over Rs 35,500 to them, along with his passport. His medical was conducted at a laboratory in Sector 41, Chandigarh. After a few days, when the accused did not respond to repeated phone calls, he came to Kharar and found that their office was locked and neighbours told him that they had left the place. He was informed that several other youths also came here to enquire about them. They have also handed over passports and money to the accused. TNSKharar: An attempt was made to break open an ATM of HDFC Bank near KFC, Desu Majra, on Tuesday night. According to information, the police received a complaint regarding this on Wednesday evening. The police said there was no guard on duty at the ATM. No loss of cash was reported in the incident. The police have started investigations. OC Accident victim dies Zirakpur: Jagjeet Singh (44) who sustained serious injuries in an accident that took place near the McDonald lights here on September 11, succumbed to his injuries at the GMCH-32, on Wednesday. The police lodged an FIR against the accused driver, Dyal Chand, a resident of Patiala, who is still at large. The incident took place on September 11 when the victim, a resident of Sohana village, was allegedly hit by a tipper while crossing the traffic lights near McDonalds. The tipper that was coming from the Dera Bassi side hit the victim’s motorbike. The victim was rushed to the Civil hospital, Dera Bassi, from where he was referred to the GMCH-32. The police have booked the accused driver and efforts are on to nab him. OC
