Apni Mandi: MC panel for raising ground rent

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, November 11The Apni Mandi and Day Market Committee of the MC has proposed that the ground rent being deposited by the Punjab Mandi Board for holding of Apni Mandi at various locations in the city be increased. The committee also restricted the timings of Apni Mandi from 8 am to 9 pm. The committee also proposed to hold a day market in Sector 63. Goods of 30 vendors at Sector 15 and 35 at Sector 40 were seized as they failed to abide by the order.

Chandigarh, November 11 The Apni Mandi and Day Market Committee of the MC has proposed that the ground rent being deposited by the Punjab Mandi Board for holding of Apni Mandi at various locations in the city be increased. The proposal will now be placed before the MC General House for its approval. Also on the agenda will be creation of a separate cell of Apni Mandi and day market. During a committee meeting, chaired by councillor Sheela Devi and attended by other members of the panel, it was also suggested that the day market sites should be divided into three sections — vegetable, fruits and miscellaneous items. The committee also restricted the timings of Apni Mandi from 8 am to 9 pm. The committee also proposed to hold a day market in Sector 63. Enforcement drive Officials of the enforcement wing of the MC, accompanied by local police, confiscated the goods of 65 vendors at the Apni Mandi and day markets in Sector 40 and 15 for not adhering to the prescribed timings of operation, which is till 9 pm. A team reached the spot at 9 pm and gave vendors about half an hour to leave. Goods of 30 vendors at Sector 15 and 35 at Sector 40 were seized as they failed to abide by the order. They will be issued challans.
