Many good Samaritans across the world are contributing for the girl’s treatment. Dhanyashri is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals. Doctors said that she had swelling in the brain and suffered fractures on the spine and leg. “Last Wednesday, she underwent a brain decompression surgery. She was on ventilator support. Now, her condition is much better. She is interacting with her family,” said a hospital source. Ever since Dhanyashri was admitted to the hospital, her parents Sridhar and Yamunadevi have been spending anxious nights waiting to hear the news of her recovery. “We have been getting money from different people. Some people are sending money to Mr. Sridhar’s bank account and some are coming in person to hand it over,” said S. Shankar, Dhanyashri’s uncle. Through social media Among those who contributed for the treatment is Satish Kumar Mohan, a resident of Washermanpet. He started a campaign on the crowd funding site, Milaap, and managed to collect about ?15 lakh by Thursday evening. Over 1,000 persons have contributed and many have posted messages praying for Dhanyashri’s recovery. “We have a WhatsApp group called Andharboyz, comprising 15 friends from Washermanpet. Through this group, we exchange information about such issues. My friends then pass it on to other WhatsApp groups and collect money. We then hand it over to the person in need,” said Mr. Satish. The group had raised funds for the Chennai floods and for schools for the physically challenged. “But in this case, I wanted to gather more funds, hence I opted for Milaap,” said Mr. Satish. Apart from providing money, many are even conducting puja and annadhanam for the girl’s speedy recovery. “Usually, people ignore WhatsApp messages seeking help thinking such calls are fake. But there will be some genuine ones like ours,” added Mr. Shankar.
