While motorists ignored her as she lay near the bushes after being mugged by a 20-year-old with a criminal record, two persons helped save her life. Though they did not stop to look how badly she was injured or take her to a hospital, one of them alerted the 108 ambulance and the other informed the police. ‘Strong woman’ The 30-year-old techie narrated her ordeal to Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, who visited her in the hospital on Sunday. Presenting her a bouquet, he wished her speedy recovery. Ms. Lavanya told the Police Commissioner that post-recovery, she would visit his office. “She is a strong woman,” said Mr. Viswanthan. According to officers who accompanied the Commissioner, she told him that she kept crying for help. Of those who travelled past her, one person called the 108 ambulance and the other, travelling in a tempo traveller, informed special sub-inspector Ravi at the Chitalapakkam check-post that an injured woman was crying for help. M.C. Sarangan, Additional Commissioner of police, South, also visited her in the hospital on Saturday and returned her phone to her. “She was very happy and told me that her father was planning to get her a new phone. She was happy to know that the accused in the case have been arrested. Public should help people in distress,” he said.
