Road in Perambur puts pedestrians at risk as its lamps are defunct. As it connects Perambur and Vysarpadi railway stations and provides access to the bus terminus in Perambur, it is an important and busy road. Moreover, the footpath of Perambur Main Road which intersects with B.B. “Steps will be taken to repair the defunct street lamps on the B.B. According to residents, many complaints have been made to the Greater Chennai Corporation, but no action has been taken yet.

B.B. Road in Perambur puts pedestrians at risk as its lamps are defunct. As it connects Perambur and Vysarpadi railway stations and provides access to the bus terminus in Perambur, it is an important and busy road. These public facilities can be accessede by walking through this road. But at night, many residents avoid this road as it is poorly illuminated. “For the last six months, streets lamps along B.B. Road have not been functioning,” says S. Vijayalakshmi, a resident of Perambur. According to residents, many complaints have been made to the Greater Chennai Corporation, but no action has been taken yet. Sodium-vapour lamps on the interior lanes of B.B. Road have not been replaced with LED lamps. Moreover, most of the lamps are defunct due to electrical problems. Until recently, B.B. Road was dug up for pipeline-laying work by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. Residents say the electrical wiring of the lamps may have got damaged during the work. They also pointed out that the dug-up soil was dumped on the pavement of B.B. Road. It has not been cleared for many months now. Moreover, the footpath of Perambur Main Road which intersects with B.B. Road is encroached upon by hawkers and the homeless. “Steps will be taken to repair the defunct street lamps on the B.B. Road,” says a Corporation official.
