more-in The South Indian Artistes’ Association, popularly known as Nadigar Sangam, has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Kancheepuram district crime branch police to register a case against its former office-bearers Radha Ravi, R. Sarath Kumar, K.R. Selvaraj and M.N.K. Natesan for having “fraudulently” sold 26 cents of land owned by the association at Vedamangalam village. Justice M.S. Ramesh on Thursday directed a government counsel to obtain instructions from the police and adjourned the hearing by a week. In its petition, the association, represented by its incumbent general secretary Vishal, stated that the association had purchased the land Vedamangalam village in Chengalpet (now Kancheepuram) district in 1987 for the welfare of its members. However, in 2006, then general secretary Mr. Radha Ravi, colluded with the other office-bearers and created forged documents to execute a general power of attorney in favour of one N. India Selvam and got the latter to sell the property to third parties. The entire process was carried out without the knowledge of the other members of the association, the petitioner alleged. “Till date the price for which the property was sold is not known and no money has been received by the association,” the petition read. and went on to state that the issue came to light only in June 2016 when the incumbent office-bearers assumed charge after winning the elections to the association. Immediately, show cause notices were issued to the former office-bearers. “Subsequently, one of the former office-bearers K.N. Kalai had expired. The others initially sought time to reply on various grounds but could not give any reply which shows their guilty,” the association said and sought for a direction to the police to register a case on the basis of a specific complaint lodged with the Superintendent of Police on September 26, 2017. The association also alleged that the police were reluctant to register a First Information Report (FIR). “The petitioner is forced to assume that since the accused persons are powerful persons, the respondent police is hesitating to take action,” the Nadigar Sangam added.
