Gold worth Rs 76 lakh seized from passengers at Chennai airport

During search, two brown-coloured rubbery spread were found wrapped in transparent plastic covers and kept concealed inside the waist area of his trousers. Suspecting the rubbery spread to be of gold, a gold assayer was called in to extract and examine the same, and 385 grams of gold valued at Rs 12 lakh was extracted.On Monday morning, gold weighing a total of 565 gram and worth Rs 17 lakh was seized from two passengers – one from Dubai and the from Colombo. On examination, 10 gold bars weighing 1,485 gram gold bars -- worth at Rs 46.5 lakh -- were recovered from them.In another case on Wednesday morning, Thameem Ansari, 37, a resident of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai to Chennai in an Emirates Airlines flight, was intercepted.
