Minister for Social Welfare V. Saroja on Monday held a review meeting with officials on the effective implementation of the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) in the State. The Hindu had highlighted the issue of pendency of POCSO cases in the State in these columns on Sunday. According to data submitted by the Union Government to Supreme Court recently, there are about 1.2 lakh pending POCSO cases in the country with Tamil Nadu accounting for 2,003 of them. Of these, 219 cases are pending for the last three years.
