TN wants Centre to operationalise CWMA

The Dental Council of India and the Union health ministry should relax norms and approve state-funded dental college in Virudhunagar too, he said.The chief minister demanded that a centre for excellence in Gandhian philosophy and rural development be established in Gandhigram University at a cost of Rs 500 crore. COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday sought immediate operationalisation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).In his speech at the fourth annual meeting of the governing council of Niti Aayog in New Delhi, Palaniswami said immediate operationalisation of the CWMA and the CWRA was essential for the effective implementation of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, as modified by the Supreme Court.He urged the Centre to take steps for interlinking of rivers by nationalisation of all the interstate rivers.“Interlinking of interstate rivers alone offers the promise of creating a framework that would allow optimal utilisation of water resources amongst states,’’ he said.Pointing out that Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts had been identified as aspirational districts, EPS urged the central government to sanction one medical college each for these two districts in 2018 -19 under the central sector scheme.
