Controversial FB post: S Ve Shekher gets bail

CHENNAI: The Chennai chief metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday granted bail to comedian-turned-politician S Ve Shekher , two months after the latter shared a controversial Facebook post degrading woman journalists.On April 19, Shekher shared a post uploaded by his Facebook friend, Thirumalai Sa. On May 10, the high court dismissed his application.Immediately, Shekher moved the Supreme Court. On June 1, the Supreme Court too refused to grant advance bail to the actor. It directed him to surrender before a judicial magistrate court in Chennai and seek regular bail there.On June 12, the Chennai chief metropolitan magistrate court rejected the chargesheet filed against Shekher by police and summoned him to appear before it on June 20.When the plea came up for hearing on Wednesday, chief metropolitan magistrate Malarvizhi recorded the appearance of Shekher and granted him bail with a direction to appear before her on July 18. It was in the context of Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit patting a woman journalist on her cheek during a press meet in Raj Bhavan.When he was trolled by netizens for sharing the post targeting woman journalists, Shekher deleted it and later tendered an apology.However, based on a complaint filed by journalists, cybercrime police registered criminal case against the BJP spokesperson under sections 504, 505 (1) (c) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment (Prevention) Act.Apprehending arrest, Shekher moved the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail.
