Residents submit petition to restore Nemilichery Eri

Members of Federation of Civic and Welfare Associations of Pallavapuram (FCWAP) recently met Chief Minister Edapadi K. Palanisamy at Fort St. George. Balaraman, assistant treasurer, and P. Vijayasarathy, a social activist, submitted a petition seeking restoration of Nemilichery Eri. The members thanked the Chief Minister for having taken steps to rejuvenate Pallavaram Periya Eri, Keezhkattalai lake and for allocating more than ?300 crore to revive waterbodies across the State under ‘Kudimaramathu’ scheme. As the soil removed from the lake is filled with garbage and plastics, it would not be appropriate to use the soil for the formation of bunds. Murugaiyan, secretary, M.C. Balaraman, assistant treasurer, and P. Vijayasarathy, a social activist, submitted a petition seeking restoration of Nemilichery Eri. The members thanked the Chief Minister for having taken steps to rejuvenate Pallavaram Periya Eri, Keezhkattalai lake and for allocating more than ?300 crore to revive waterbodies across the State under ‘Kudimaramathu’ scheme. Santhanam said, “At present, work on desilting and deepening the lake is under way. As the soil removed from the lake is filled with garbage and plastics, it would not be appropriate to use the soil for the formation of bunds. Therefore, steps must be taken to remove garbage from the desilted soil.” Further, the members requested the Chief Minister to issue a directive to the Pallavapuram Municipality to desilt and deepen stormwater drains connected to the lake and arrest illegal discharge of sewage into the lake. Other requests include construction of the Radha Nagar subway, construction of a subway at Vaishnav College gate, provision of basic amenities at Hasthinapuram bus terminus and reduction of Under Ground Drainage charges and property tax.
