Over the years, Renu Narayan has been working on herself, dropping things that run counter to the definition of an eco-friendly lifestyle. For her, the definition has become broader with time. She believes going green is largely about making changes in the quotidian aspects of one’s life. “When I order a takeaway at a restaurant, I carry home the food in tiffin-boxes. When I place the order over the phone, I insist that they don’t send plastic spoons and tissue papers along with the food. At vegetable markets, I don’t accept polythene carry bags, though they would have made my work easier. I put all the vegetables into cloth bags and sort them out back home. These days, I carry straws made from bamboo, and I use edible spoons,” says Renu about the changes she has made. Renu, a homemaker and a resident of Injambakkam, is in the process of promoting a forum where people can discuss questions pertaining to an eco-friendly lifestyle. It is called The Dialogue. Renu Narayan can be reached at renu.narayan@hotmail.com
