Mr. Dhinakaran was slated to come to his office on Wednesday morning and distribute welfare material to the residents. Ahead of his visit, the AIADMK cadre waved ?20 notes in an apparent reference to the alleged distribution of cash during the byelection by the Dhinakaran camp. Stones pelted This did not go down well with the AMMK cadre, who clashed with the AIADMK members. When the police tried to bring the situation under control, unidentified persons started pelting stones. “The whole incident lasted for about five minutes. We had deployed about 150 police personnel from the morning. The woman police officer sustained a cut on her head, and three to four more people were injured,” Prem Anand Sinha, JC (North), told The Hindu. “We brought the situation under control and drove away the protesters. They tried to come back but we chased them away,” he also said. The police have registered cases against unknown persons for rioting. Mr. Dhinakaran, who arrived at the party office following the clashes, told reporters that P. Vetrivel (disqualified MLA) had already informed the police on Tuesday that the AIADMK was planning to disrupt his visit to the constituency. “We have taken videos of everything, those who pelted stones. We will go to court that the police had not taken any action despite our complaint,” he said. “I won’t be scared by all this [violence]. I will keep coming to my constituency whenever I can. My office is functioning full time,” he said, alleging that the government was not implementing a number of projects in his constituency.
