Srirangam temple idols safe: Chief priest

TRICHY: Srirangam Murali Bhattar, the chief priest of the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple , on Thursday denied allegations that the idol of the main deity had been replaced.Addressing a press conference, which was held against the backdrop of the alleged irregularities in the temple, the chief priest said repair work had been carried out on the main idol recently. “But we were regularly visiting the main deity, and it is not possible to replace the idol in our presence,” he said.He rejected the allegation that Purushottama Perumal idol was missing from the temple. It was shifted to the thousand pillar mandapam from Chakrathalwar sannidhi for security reasons,” he said. “The idol is very much there.
